Penn State tops Massachusetts in softball
Macy Jones’ three-run, inside-the-park home run highlighted the Penn State softball team’s 7-4 win over Massachusetts at the Red and Blue Classic on Sunday.
Jones’ home run gave the Nittany Lions a 4-2 lead after two innings. Penn State added three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by Mollie Sorenson and a one-run single by Shelby Miller.
Sorenson went 2 for 4, scored two runs and drove in two runs, and Miller finished 2 for 3. Alyssa VanDerveer also went 2 for 3.
Marlaina Laubach allowed one run in four innings of relief to earn the win.
The Nittany Lions (9-10) play at Mississippi State at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
