Penn State sending 3 divers to NCAA Championships

Penn State’s Hector Garcia Boissier won the 1-meter dive while Logan Knauss placed fourth to earn two bids to the NCAA Championships.

The Nittany Lion divers turned in their performances at the NCAA Zone A Regional on Tuesday afternoon in Lejeune Hall at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Garcia posted a 12-dive score of 696.15 to win by less than four points, while Knauss was fourth with a score of 621.05.

Jack Crow and Connor Scanlon also earned top-10 results but finished short of NCAA bids. Crow was sixth at 613.40 and Scanlon was ninth at 596.45.

Crow earned an NCAA bid on the 3-meter board Monday, giving the Penn State men three divers in the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1998, and the first Nittany Lions at the NCAA meet since 2005.

On the women’s side Mackenzie Cornell placed 12th at 540.00 on the 3-meter board.

On Monday, Garcia totaled a 12-dive score of 732.10 to win the zone on the 3-meter board, while Crow totaled 717.75 for second.

Platform diving for the men and the women will be held Wednesday, and the NCAA meet will be held March 16-19 for the men and March 23-26 for the women in Atlanta.
