Penn State outlasts James Madison in women’s lacrosse

Madison Carter scored six goals to help the No. 9 Penn State women’s lacrosse team outlast James Madison for an 18-17 overtime win Wednesday.

Madison Cyr scored four goals and had two assists for the Nittany Lions. Katie O’Donnell scored the game-winning goal 1:18 into overtime.

Carter and Cyr each found the back of the net to pull Penn State within 17-16, and Steph Lazo tied the game with a goal with 5:46 remaining in regulation.

Abby Smucker scored three goals for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State’s Cat Rainone made two saves and didn’t allow a goal in 10:48 of action, while teammate Emi Smith made three saves. James Madison’s Danielle Harmeyer finished with 11 saves.

The Nittany Lions (5-1) return to action at Vanderbilt at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
