Penn State baseball (7-10) won its first home series of the season after winning the final two games in a doubleheader against Niagara on Saturday, 4-1 and 16-4.
A strong five frames from pitcher Sal Biasi earned him the win in the first game. Biasi ceded three hits and struck out five, holding Niagara scoreless after starter Eli Nabholz gave up a first-inning run.
Penn State’s offense exploded in the second game as the team scored 16 runs off of 14 hits.
Catcher Nick Graham drove in five runs while first baseman Willie Burger drove in three and scored four runs off four hits. Second baseman Christian Helsel scored three and plated one.
The Nittany Lions scored 11 runs in the first three innings as a quartet of Niagara pitchers were rotated through the mound, three of whom hit two batters apiece.
Penn State’s Justin Hagenman earned his third win of the season after six innings pitched with four runs ceded, five strikeouts, no walks and five strikeouts. Sixty-two of his 90 pitches were strikes. He also hit two batters.
The Nittany Lions host West Virginia in a solo matchup on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m.
