Softball earns mercy-rule win over Hofstra
The Penn State softball team smoked Hofstra 10-2, invoking the mercy rule, on Sunday, closing out the weekend three-game series.
The Nittany Lions (10-13) used 11 hits to notch a run total just one shy from a season-high. Penn State had no errors, while Hofstra committed four fielding errors and mustered only four hits all afternoon.
Five Penn State pitchers threw one inning each, including Jessica Cummings, who earned her first win of the year.
Penn State’s Macy Jones starred at the plate, pushing her hitting streak to 13 games and recording her fourth multi-RBI game of the year with a two-run homer.
Lexi Knief and Toni Polk also had a pair of RBIs each, while Erin Pond slapped a trio of hits.
The Nittany Lions have a non-conference doubleheader against Robert Morris on Wednesday.
