Softball wins Big Ten opener
Penn State softball won its Big Ten season opener on Friday, downing Rutgers 12-8 on the road at the RU Softball Complex.
The Nittany Lions were powered by four home runs from four different players — Macy Jones, Shannon Good, Shelby Miller and Alyssa VanDerveer — and had 12 total hits. It was Jones’ fourth home run of the season, pushing her hitting streak to 16 games.
Penn State starter Marlaina Laubach threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings, while reliever Madison Seifert, who also went 3 1/3 innings, earned the win.
The Nittany Lions (12-14) continue their three-game weekend series at Rutgers at 1 p.m. Saturday.
