Laubach delivers Penn State softball win over Rutgers
Marlaina Laubach pitched a complete-game win as Penn State beat Rutgers 4-1 in nine innings Saturday.
The win secured the first season-opening Big Ten road series victory in program history.
Laubach (5-5) struck out four, walked two and scatterd eight hits over nine innings.
Shelby Miller, Alyssa VanDerveer and Lexi Knief each had 2 for 4 days at the plate for the Nittany Lions (13-14, 2-0 Big Ten).
Pinch hitter Tori Dubois had the clutch hit with a bases-loaded single to shallow left field to plate the game-winning run, with two more coming home on bases-loaded walks. Rutgers tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two out, but a final strikeout from Laubach ended the rally.
The teams complete their three-game series Sunday.
