The Penn State softball team swept its doubleheader against Michigan State on Friday to remain unbeaten in Big Ten play.
The Nittany Lions beat the Spartans 7-2 and 11-5 at Beard Field.
In the first game, Penn State (16-14, 5-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and cruised to victory. Kristina Brackpool’s two-run single and Shelby Miller’s two-run home run accounted for the scoring in the inning.
That proved to be enough support for Marlaina Laubach, who allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in a complete-game performance to earn the win.
Macy Jones finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Lexi Knief finished 3 for 4 and scored two runs for the Nittany Lions.
In the second game, Penn State erased an early two-run deficit with a three-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Erin Pond.
Tori Dubois, who went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, had a two-run double in the team’s three-run fifth inning to help the Nittany Lions take the lead for good.
Knief went 3 for 3 and scored two runs, Alyssa VanDerveer went 4 for 4 and scored two runs and Pond finished 2 for 4, scored three runs and drove in four.
Madison Seifert earned the win, and Laubach picked up the save.
