Balance helps Penn State women’s lacrosse top Rutgers

Thanks to a balanced offensive effort, No. 9 Penn State raced to an early lead and cruised to a 16-9 win over Rutgers at the Nittany Lion Lacrosse Field on Saturday afternoon.

Steph Lazo’s three goals and four assists paced Penn State (9-2, 1-0) in the Big Ten opener as the team is off to its best start to a season since a 10-2 beginning in 1996.

Madison Carter added three goals and two assists, Jenna Mosketti also had three goals and Madison Cyr had two goals and two assists. Kelly Daggett and Ally Heavens each added two goals.

Maggie Gallagher netted the other goal, and Delaney Muldoon had an assist. Emi Smith made 10 saves for the win, with relief help from Cat Rainone and McKenna Coyle.

Kim Kolodny’s three goals paced the Scarlet Knights.
