The Penn State softball team is off to a perfect start to its Big Ten season, earning its second straight weekend series sweep Saturday.
The Nittany Lions (17-14, 6-0 Big Ten) beat Michigan State 8-6 at Beard Field, extending the team’s win streak to seven straight and giving the team its best start to conference play in program history. The win streak is second-longest in Nittany Lion history.
Macy Jones had a big day, launching a pair of home runs as part of a 3 for 3 performance at the plate. She knocked in four runs and has reached base in 21 straight games.
Tori Dubois also homered among her two hits and two RBIs, and Mollie Sorenson added a pair of hits. Erin Pond cracked a double.
Madison Seifert, the third Penn State pitcher of the day, worked the final four innings and earned the win, giving up five hits and two walks not keeping the Spartans from crossing home plate.
McKenzie Long homered and Dani Goranson took the loss for the Spartans (19-17, 1-5).
Penn State heads back out on the road for two games at Ohio State on Wednesday.
