Eckerstrom, Megaludis receive Penn State’s McCoy Award

After helping their teams capture national championships, Penn State seniors Britt Eckerstrom and Nico Megaludis each received the Ernest B. McCoy Memorial Award.

The award is given to one senior female and one senior male who “have combined successful athletic participation with academic excellence,” according to the university’s announcement Tuesday.

Eckerstrom was the goalkeeper for the national champion women’s soccer team. She started every game and posted 15 shutouts, including eight in a row to finish the season. Eckerstrom finished her career second in program history with 61 wins and fourth in history with 255 saves.

Eckerstrom, a geography major, owns a 3.64 grade point average.

Megaludis won his first individual national wrestling championship at 125 pounds in March. His effort was part of the team’s fifth national title in six years and made him a four-time All-American.

He went 32-3 last season and finished his career with 119 wins, good for 11th in program history. Megaludis is a finance major who is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
