PSU men’s track and field team ties No. 2 Oregon for 1st place

The No. 17 Penn State men’s track and field team tied host No. 2 Oregon for first place at the Pepsi Invitational on Saturday at Hayward Field.

The Nittany Lions and Ducks both finished with 181.50 points, followed by Washington (168) and Southern California (94) in the four-team meet.

Penn State’s Xavier Smith finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.61 seconds and took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.96 seconds. Penn State’s Brannon Kidder set a meet record to win the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:47.40.

The Nittany Lions’ 4x400 relay team of Dan Chisena, Alex Shisler, Samuel Reiser and Isaiah Harris also finished first (3:08.86).

Penn State’s Brian Leap won the triple jump (15.86m).

Second-place finishers for the Nittany Lions included: Chisena (100), Malik Moffett (200), Harris (800), Robby Creese (1,500), Ean DiSilvio (3,000-meter steeplechase), 4x100 relay team (Smith, Chisena, Moffett and Anton Porter), Chisom Ifedi (high jump), David Lucas (discus) and Morgan Shigo (hammer throw).

Oregon won the women’s meet with 173 points, beating Penn State (166), Washington (164) and USC (134).

Penn State’s Rachel Fatherly finished first in the shot put (16.50m) and took first in the hammer throw (55.51m). Megan McCloskey won the high jump (1.76m), Dannielle Gibson took first in the triple jump (13.08m) and Lauren Kenney was first in the javelin (48.90m) for the Nittany Lions.
