Alyssa VanDerveer went 4 for 6 with a home run to spearhead Penn State’s big day at the plate in a 15-7 win over Indiana on Saturday.
The Nittany Lions finished with a season-high 18 hits one day after piling up 12 hits and 13 runs in a series-opening win. VanDerveer scored three runs and drove in a team-high four runs Saturday. Penn State’s Lexi Knief went 3 for 6 and scored three runs and Shannon Good finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs, while teammates Kristina Brackpool and Reina Furuya went 2 for 2 with a home run and a triple.
Penn State put the game out of reach with four runs in the fifth inning, sparked by a two-run double by Erin Pond.
Madison Seifert pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win.
The Nittany Lions (19-16, 8-2) finish their series against the Hoosiers at 11 a.m. Sunday.
