A pair of four-run innings, and three home runs, helped Penn State to a 9-6 victory over Maryland on Friday evening to open their three-game weekend series at Beard Field.
Macy Jones wielded the big stick for the Nittany Lions (22-17) with a 4 for 4 day at the plate while clubbing a home run. Jones belted a two-run homer, with Shelby Miller and Alyssa VanDerveer following with solo shots, during a four-run fourth inning as Penn State racked up 11 hits in the game.
A two-run single for Lexi Knief and an RBI single for Tori Dubois highlighted a four-run third inning for Penn State, which has won three straight and 12 of its past 15 games.
Marlaina Laubach gave up five runs and six hits, walking two and striking out two, over 4 2/3 innings for the win.

Brenna Nation took the loss for the Terrapins (11-28), who were led by a 3 for 4 day with two doubles and three RBIs for Kristina Dillard.
The teams meet again at 4 p.m. Saturday.
