Women’s lacrosse knocks off No. 12 Northwestern

By scoring the game’s final five goals, the Penn State women’s lacrosse team knocked off No. 12 Northwestern 17-13 Saturday afternoon at the Penn State Lacrosse Field.

Madison Cyr’s four goals and three assists paced the No. 14 Nittany Lions (11-4, 3-1 Big Ten). She has scored in every game this season, is on a 24-game scoring streak, and Saturday’s total was her 10th hat trick of the season.

Trailing 13-12 with 9:15 to go after a Wildcat tally, Jenna Mosketti tied it with her second goal of the day and Steph Lazo registered the go-ahead score. Katie O’Donnell scored her fourth of the game, Lazo scored again to give her three goals and three assists, and Madison Carter completed the day’s points with her fourth goal of the day.

Christina Espositi’s four goals led the Wildcats (7-8, 2-2), with two goals each for Nancy Dunbar, Leighton Yenor and Danita Stroup.

Emi Smith made nine saves for the win.
