Aponte, Cyr nominated for Tewaaraton Award in lacrosse

Penn State’s Nick Aponte and Madison Cyr are each among 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, given to the nation’s top lacrosse player.

Aponte, a junior, is the first Nittany Lion men’s player nominated for the award since Austin Kaut in 2012 and 2013. Aponte is second on the team with 40 points this season, including 22 goals.

Cyr, a senior, is the women’s team’s fourth nominee under coach Missy Doherty. She leads the Nittany Lions in goals (47) and points (63), and is riding a 25-game goal-scoring streak.

The list of nominees will be whittled to five finalists for the men’s and women’s awards on May 12. The winners will be announced June 2.

Penn State’s men wrap up their regular season at noon Saturday hosting Michigan, while the women are preparing for the Big Ten Tournament.
