Chakey named finalist for Unsung Hero Award

Penn State senior James Chakey was named a finalist for the Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award, presented by the One Love Foundation, announced on Monday.

Chakey is part of a group of 10 men’s and women’s lacrosse student-athletes from around the nation to be selected as a candidate.

The defender serves on the Nittany Lions’ leadership council and is involved in Penn State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Board. Chakey was also awarded Penn State’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

The Unsung Hero Award recognizes the accomplishments of two lacrosse student-athletes (one female, one male) who demonstrate dedication, integrity, humility, hard work, community service, leadership, kindness and sportsmanship.

The award winners will be announced May 25.
