Penn State’s Danielle Gibson was named Mid-Atlantic Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.
The junior will compete in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships on Saturday in Eugene, Ore. She set a Penn State all-time, all-conditions record in the event while placing third in the NCAA East preliminary round at 44 feet, 8 3/4 inches.
She placed second in the triple jump and 10th in the long jump at the Big Ten Championships.
Gibson is one of seven Nittany Lions competing at the NCAA Championships at Oregon’s Hayward Field this week.
