Penn State has dropped to No. 12 in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings in the first spring compilation of rankings.
Boosted by the women’s lacrosse team making it to the NCAA semifinals and the men’s tennis squad advancing to the NCAA second round, the Nittany Lion athletic program remained in the top 15. Penn State was No. 5 at the end of the winter season, and is seeking its 18th top-15 finish. The school is among only nine to have been in the top 25 in each of the 22 Director’s Cup final standings.
The Nittany Lions have accumulated 800.5 points. Just 40 points separate eighth place (Florida, 836.75) from 13th (Notre Dame, 797.0). Stanford remained in the lead, followed by Ohio State, Michigan, USC, North Carolina, UCLA, Virginia, Florida, Texas, California, Syracuse and Penn State.
