Penn State’s offense was shut down by Kent State’s pitching staff Tuesday night in a 4-1 loss to the Golden Flash.

The Nittany Lions (17-20) were held to four singles by Kent State’s five pitchers, with Andy Ravel striking out five, walking one and giving up two hits in 5 1/3 shutout innings for the win.

A Ryan Richter RBI single in the seventh inning accounted for the Nittany Lions’ lone run.

Cody Koch was 3 for 4 to pace the Flash offense, knocking in a run. Kent State scored three of its runs in the sixth on just one hit, also using two Penn State errors and two hit batters.

Rob Cooper was ejected from a game for the first time as Nittany Lion coach for arguing balls and strikes in the inning.

Geoff Boylston took the loss, allowing two hits, two walks and four runs — two earned — over five-plus innings with six strikeouts.

Penn State visits Minnesota on Friday.
