Penn State’s Tim Dunn limited Minnesota to five hits, but the Nittany Lions’ lineup struggled in a 2-1 loss to the Golden Gophers on Friday.
Dunn pitched eight innings, recording three strikeouts and one walk to keep Penn State (17-21, 5-7) in the game. J.J. White went 2-for-3, and Jim Haley finished 2-for-4 to lead the Nittany Lions, who have lost seven straight. Minnesota starter Alec Crawford allowed six hits and struck out nine in eight innings to earn the win.
White singled to score Haley and tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third. Minnesota (20-16, 7-9) took the lead for good on Mark Tatera’s sacrifice fly in the fourth.
