Penn State baseball: Nebraska thumps Nittany Lions

Nebraska erupted for seven early runs and breezed past Penn State 9-2 Saturday at Haymarket Park, extending the Nittany Lions’ losing streak to 11 games.

Aaron Bummer shut down the Nittany Lions (17-25, 5-11) with seven strong innings on the mound for the win, striking out six while allowing four hits, four walks and just one run.

TJ Jann pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up 10 of the 12 hits collected by the Cornhuskers (31-17, 12-5), who got at least one hit from all but one starter. Ryan Boldt had two hits and three RBIs, while Pat Kelly and Austin Darby each homered and knocked in two runs.

Steve Snyder was 3 for 4, accounting for half his team’s hits, and drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to bring home a run. Taylor Skerpon raced home on a passed ball to account for the other Penn State score.

The teams tangle again Sunday to complete the three-game weekend series.
