Penn State’s baseball season got off to a rough start as the Nittany Lions were swept in a three-game series against Elon.
The Nittany Lions dropped a doubleheader 7-2 and 11-6 on Saturday.
In Saturday’s opener, Penn State managed just two hits, a solo homer and a single by Ryan Richter, who scored both runs.
Elon’s Jake Stalzer went 62/3 innings with four walks and seven strikeouts to earn the win. Casey Jones had three hits and drove in two runs for the Phoenix.

In the nightcap, Elon continued to pound PSU pitching, which gave up 34 runs in the series. The Phoenix scored in six of eight at-bats in the 11-6 romp.
Tyler Kendall had three hits and drove in two runs for Penn State. Jim Haley added two hits and two RBIs. Nick Riotto also had two hits
Designated hitter Chris King did the damage for the Phoenix with a homer, two doubles and three RBIs.
Penn State next travels to Texas A&M for a three-game series, which begins Friday.
