Penn State baseball: Nittany Lions top West Virginia
Penn State led from start to finish in its 5-3 victory over West Virginia on Tuesday night.
The Nittany Lions scored two runs in the top of the first inning.
James Coates started the game with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a Greg Guers single. Coates then scored on Jim Haley’s squeeze bunt single. Guers later stole third and scored on a throwing error by Mountaineer catcher Cam O’Brien.
Coates, who finished 3 for 4, recorded an RBI single in the second inning to push Penn State’s lead to 3-0.
Penn State starting pitcher Dakota Forsyth allowed one run on three hits in four innings. Nittany Lion reliever Marko Boricich allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings to earn the win, and Jack Anderson gave up one run in 3 2/3 innings for the save.
Shane Ennis allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss for West Virginia (21-13)
Penn State (11-20) hosts Bucknell at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
