Penn State baseball: Nittany Lions top Rutgers in series opener

Penn State used two four-run innings en route to an 8-1 victory over Rutgers on Friday in the series opener at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Nittany Lions (15-26, 3-12 Big Ten) got started in the fourth inning with a solo home run from Greg Guers, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games. J.J. White drove in Aaron Novak, who reached on a walk, with an RBI single. White and Nick Riotto, who reached on a walk, were driven in on Tyler Kendall’s double.

Penn State’s Jim Haley came to the plate in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and hit a ground-rule double to score two. Riotto then picked up two RBIs with a single to center field.
