Penn State baseball: Nittany Lions finish off sweep of Rutgers
Penn State completed a three-game sweep of Rutgers with an 8-5 win Sunday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Nittany Lions scored three runs in the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie. Jim Haley drove in the go-ahead run with a double to left-center field, Aaron Novak followed with an RBI triple and J.J. White made it 8-5 with an RBI double on Senior Day.
Greg Guers hit a home run in the first inning to give Penn State a 1-0 lead and extend his hitting streak to 16 games. Guers finished 5 for 12 with five runs and six RBIs in the series.
Haley went 2 for 4, scored three runs and drove in another Sunday. He went 7 for 13, scored seven runs and drove in three runs to help Penn State sweep the Scarlet Knights.
Penn State starting pitcher Dakota Forsyth went 51/3 innings, giving up two runs on nine hits and striking out four. Jack Anderson pitched 11/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
Christian Campbell allowed three runs on four hits in one inning to take the loss for Rutgers (15-31-1, 5-13 Big Ten).
The Nittany Lions (17-26, 5-12) travel to Michigan State for a three-game series, starting Friday at 3:05 p.m.
