The Penn State baseball team will welcome former Major Leaguer Rick Sofield as the keynote speaker at the program’s annual First Pitch Dinner on Friday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ third base coach, who has been with the team since 2012, will speak as part of the event at the Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel. Sofield played in the majors for three seasons, all with the Minnesota Twins, and 10 more in the minors.
The event will include dinner, a silent auction, discussion of the team’s Cuba trip and the introduction of this season’s team.
A social for Nittany Lion baseball alumni will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., doors open to the general public at 6 p.m., and the cost is $70 for adults and $35 for children ages 3-12. Proceeds benefit Penn State baseball.
