Penn State’s Burger earns conference honors

Penn State’s Willie Burger was named the Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Monday.

Burger hit .636, scored four runs and drove in six runs in the Nittany Lions’ series against Niagara last weekend. Penn State won the final two games of the three-game series, including a 16-4 win in the finale. Burger went 4 for 4, scored four runs and drove in three runs in that game.

Jordan Steranka was the last Penn State player to earn Player of the Week honors in 2012.

The Nittany Lions (7-10) host West Virginia at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
