Nittany Lion pitchers freeze Penguins
Eli Nabholz and Dakota Forsyth combined on a four-hitter as the Penn State baseball team dropped Youngstown State 6-1 Tuesday night to start a busy week at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Greg Guers was 3 for 4, finishing a double shy of a cycle and knocking in two runs to pace the Nittany Lions (11-12) in the first of five home games in six days.
Nabholz gave up just two hits and one earned run, walking four and striking out three over five innings. Forsyth earned a four-inning save, with scoreless work while striking out two and walking one, surrendering two hits.
Jim Haley cracked a two-run double and Tyler Kendall had an RBI single during a four-run third inning for Penn State. Guers later added a solo homer in the fifth and an RBI triple in the seventh.
Billy Salem was 2 for 4 to lead the Penguins (5-16).
The Nittany Lions host Binghamton on Wednesday.
