Rutgers pitcher Howie Brey silenced the Penn State bats Friday in a 5-0 Scarlet Knights win at Bainton Field.
Brey (5-3) struck out seven, allowed five hits and no walks until the ninth inning of the complete-game win.
A Tom Marzinczyk two-run triple, that right fielder Jordan Bowersox lost in the sun, opened the scoring in the third inning. The Knights (19-19, 4-6 Big Ten) later got RBI singles from Chris Suseck, Juwuan Harris and John Jennings.
James Coates hit a double and Taylor Lehman (1-7) allowed nine hits and four walks along with three runs with a strikeout in the loss for Penn State (23-16, 8-5).
