Penn State spotted Rutgers an early lead but couldn’t complete the comeback in a 6-4 loss to the Scarlet Knights on Saturday.
The Nittany Lions (23-17, 8-6) collected 11 hits but stranded 12 runners in losing their third straight. Jordan Bowersox doubled as he, Tyler Kendall and Connor Klemann each had two hits. Kleeman also walked three times to reach base in all five plate appearances.
Tom Marcinczyk hit a two-run, ground-rule double, and Jawuan Harris followed with an RBI double, in a three-run first inning for Rutgers, which lead 4-0 heading into the seventh.
Penn State tied it, loading the bases before Kendall hit a two-run single, Willie Burger hit an RBI double and an error led to another run.

But the Scarlet Knights (20-19, 5-6) got a two-run, ground-rule double from freshman pinch hitter Mike Martinez to retake the lead and earn the win.
Dakota Forsyth took the loss in relief of starter Sal Biasi, and Ryan Fleming picked up the win in relief.
The teams close their three-game series Sunday.
