Big Ten honors Sloniger of Penn State baseball

Penn State’s Ryan Sloniger was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.

The catcher batted .500 (5 for 10) with his first career home run in three starts behind the plate, knocking in five runs. He knocked in four of those runs in a 2 for 4 day in a win over Bucknell, and was 2 for 3 with a homer in a win over Rutgers.

The Nittany Lions host Kent State on Wednesday as the team honors the NCAA championship teams of the past school year for Penn State.
