Nittany Lions signee Dante Biasi was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 22nd round of June’s MLB Draft, but the left-handed pitcher has chosen to pursue his academic and athletic career at Penn State instead of joining the major league club.
The Hazleton Area product signed with Penn State in November. The deadline for draft picks to sign was July 15.
“It was a tough choice,” Biasi said in a press release, “but I didn’t think I was ready to be a pro.”
Biasi becomes the earliest high school draft pick to join Penn State since Eric Hohn was selected in the 20th round by the Baltimore Orioles in 1982.
