Penn State men’s basketball adds former star Talor Battle to staff

Penn State men’s basketball has made an addition to its staff, and it’s a familiar face. Former star guard Talor Battle will be joining Pat Chambers’ crew as an assistant coach.

Battle was Penn State’s start player in 2010-11, when he led the Nittany Lions to their last NCAA Tournament appearance, as well as their first appearance in the Big Ten Championship game.

“Talor embodies everything it means to be a Nittany Lion and his work ethic, winning mentality and attitude align with our vision for success,” Chambers said in a press release. “His experiences at Penn State as a leader, as a competitor in the Big Ten and as part of this community will be invaluable for our current and future student-athletes.”

The former guard’s list of accomplishments as a player is a long one. He was an honorable mention on the 2011 AP All-American team and is the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,213 career points.

While Battle has plenty of on-court experience as a player, this will be his first venture into coaching.

He spent seven years playing professionally overseas before retiring in 2018 and becoming a financial advisor.

The former Nittany Lion basketball player will be replacing Kevin Freeman, who left the Nittany Lions to re-join his own alma mater, Connecticut.
