Penn State women’s basketball postpones Thursday matchup with No. 21 Iowa due to COVID-19
Penn State women’s basketball announced that its game against Iowa on Thursday has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 test results within the Lady Lions program.
The Lady Lions canceled their matchup with out-of-conference opponent Towson, which they were set to play on Dec. 22, for the same reason. Penn State is 7-5 on the season and 1-1 in Big Ten Conference play.
“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance,” a press release from Penn State read. “Therefore, as part of the protocols established by the Big Ten Conference and Penn State Athletics medical staff, and in consultation with university, local and national officials and guidelines, individuals with a positive test have been put into isolation. In addition to isolation, contact tracing procedures have been implemented, which includes testing for those individuals who might have been exposed.”
Information on how postponement will affect the Lady Lions Big Ten Conference schedule this season will be released in the next few days. Ticket holders will be updated with information on the game following an announcement from the conference.
The No. 21 Hawkeyes (6-3) will take on Illinois at home at 2 p.m. Sunday. Penn State is set to take on No. 25 Ohio State at 7 p.m. Jan. 3.
