Penn State men’s basketball freshman guard Jameel Brown enters transfer portal

Penn State is now down to three scholarship players that are not in the transfer portal.

Freshman guard Jameel Brown has entered the portal, he told the Centre Daily Times. Fellow freshman Evan Mahaffey made the same decision Monday.

Brown played limited minutes in his first year with the program but began to show progress and was expected to be a key piece of next year’s team.

His choice comes as Penn State is set to hire VCU head coach Mike Rhoades as the new leader of the program to replace Micah Shrewsberry after he left for the Notre Dame job. Brown had previously committed to Shrewsberry when he was an assistant at Purdue, but flipped his decision once he was hired by Penn State.

Caleb Dorsey and Dallion Johnson are the other two Nittany Lions currently in the portal, but both entered before Shrewsberry’s decision was known.

That leaves freshmen centers Kebba Njie and Demetrius Lilley and freshman point guard Kanye Clary as the only scholarship players not in the portal.
