Penn State’s Carolyn Kieger to return as women’s basketball head coach, per source

Penn State isn’t making a change at head coach for its women’s basketball program.

Nittany Lions head coach Carolyn Kieger will be back as the head coach of the program for the 2025-2026 season, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Kieger’s status was in question after the program posted a 10-19 record this season and went 1-17 in conference play, missing out on the Big Ten Tournament in her sixth season with Penn State. She has yet to lead the program to the NCAA Tournament in her time at PSU after taking Marquette there three times in her five years as that program’s head coach.

Kieger has a record of 73-105 at Penn State.

The Nittany Lions got off to an 8-0 start this season but things went downhill quickly from there, with a 2-19 record from December on.
