Since suffering what’s likely a season-ending injury against Maryland, Penn State offensive tackle Andrew Nelson has taken on a new role with the Nittany Lions.
Head coach James Franklin referenced Nelson as an “assistant” to offensive line coach Matt Limegrover, helping educate the nearly two dozen players in his unit.
“He’s a real smart guy. He studies the game,” Franklin said. “That’s kind of one of the things that he’s really been embracing.”
Franklin said the injury was tough for Nelson and his family to deal with. But the coach is confident Nelson will come back stronger than ever — and in the meantime, he’ll keep coaching up his teammates.

“He’s really done a great job of taking the young guys under his wing,” Franklin said, “and those guys are kind of leaning on him.”
