Penn State’s Saquon Barkley gets college football world talking (again), squats 525 pounds
Another day, another impressive Saquon Barkley feat.
A day after power-cleaning 405 pounds, Penn State’s junior running back again had the college football world talking by squatting 525 pounds Friday for five reps. For comparison’s sake, Pro Bowl RB Adrian Peterson squats about 545 pounds.

Less than two months after he first stepped foot on campus, Barkley was garnering comparisons to past Penn State greats like Curt Warner and Larry Johnson. Somehow, he’s managed to live up to those lofty expectations — and he could very well surpass them this season.
According to Bovada, only four players have better odds at winning the Heisman — and all are quarterbacks, including USC’s Sam Darnold, Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, Louisville’s Lamar Jackson and Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett. The sports-betting site lists Barkley as a 10-to-1 Heisman pick.
The 5-foot-11, 223-pound Barkley also ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash three months ago.
