ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit recently revealed his “Herbie Awards” picks, recognizing a handful of Penn State players and the student section.

Herbstreit named Penn State the “best student section,” putting the Nittany Lions above Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Utah, Colorado and Florida. Nittany Lions running back Saquon Barkley was the No. 4 “ultimate game changer,” an award he gave to Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was last year’s Heisman Trophy winner. Jackson was followed by USC’s Sam Darnold, Florida State’s Derwin James, Barkley and Clemson’s Christian Wilkins.

Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki was second on the “unsung hero” list behind Vanderbilt’s Ralph Webb. Nittany Lions linebacker Jason Cabinda won the “ultimate Herbie” award going into the season.

Herbstreit picked Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State and USC to make the College Football Playoff. He has Ohio State winning the national championship against Alabama.
