Saquon Barkley named Maxwell Award Player of the Week
Saquon Barkley added another honor after his incredible performance at Iowa.
The star running back was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, recognizing Barkley’s 358 all-purpose yards in Penn State’s 21-19 win over the Hawkeyes.
It’s his second weekly award in as many days. Barkley was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Ironically, Iowa linebacker Josey Jewell earned the Bednarik Player of the Week award given by the Maxwell Football Club. Jewell tallied 16 tackles — three for a loss — and an interception on Saturday.
Jewell and Barkley’s battle throughout the night was epic, but the latter reigned supreme. The Heisman-contending back tallied 211 rushing yards and a touchdown on 28 carries and 94 receiving yards on 12 catches.
His 358 all-purpose yards broke Curt Warner’s Penn State record of 341 at Syracuse in 1981.
Barkley and the No. 4 Nittany Lions return to action at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at home against Indiana.
