Penn State TE Mike Gesicki expected to play Saturday, James Franklin says

Mike Gesicki is expected to play this weekend at Northwestern, Penn State coach James Franklin said at his weekly Tuesday press conference.

Gesicki left Saturday’s game against Indiana early and didn’t return. The senior tight end powered through one tackle on a catch in the first quarter, but a secondary hit to his lower left back brought him to the Beaver Stadium grass.

When asked about Gesicki’s status, Franklin initially said he had no update. Seconds later, the coach offered a tidbit of information.

“He looks great,” Franklin said. “We expect Mike to play on Saturday, as well as the other tight ends.”

Gesicki has been a primary target through five games this season. The Mackey Award candidate has 20 catches for 167 yards and four touchdowns so far.
