Penn State football’s Micah Parsons and Pat Freiermuth keep racking up offseason recognition

Micah Parsons has been racking up national recognition in the leadup to his junior season at Penn State, and added two more this week.

Parsons was named to Pro Football Focus’ college football All-PFF team, which was released Monday night via the site’s Twitter account.

The Nittany Lion linebacker graded out as the country’s best returning off-ball linebacker, scoring a 91.5.

He finished his sophomore season with 109 total tackles, five sacks and four forced fumbles. Parsons could see his sack total increase if he’s used more as a pass rusher, where he excelled as a high school recruit.

He and tight end Pat Freiermuth were also named the best playmakers in college football at their respective positions by CBS Sports college football writer Barrett Sallee.

Sallee called Parsons a “sure-fire first-round draft pick” in the 2021 draft if he stays healthy, and said Penn State head coach James Franklin’s potential use of Parsons as a kick returner says all you need to know about his playmaking ability.

Freiermuth was named the best playmaking tight end after hauling in 43 passes for 507 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019.

Earlier this month, both Nittany Lions were ranked in Mel Kiper Jr.’s top 25 draft prospects for the 2021 NFL Draft.
