Penn State athletics reports no new positive COVID-19 results out of 94 tests
Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics released its fourth round of COVID-19 test results with zero new positives out of 94 new results, while three tests are pending as of Friday.
The Nittany Lions have had eight total positives out of 560 tests through its first four rounds of testing. They began testing student-athletes upon their return to campus in early June and released the first round of results on July 1.
The new results fall in line with a schedule Penn State Athletic Director Sandy Barbour announced on a July 1 conference call.
“We have been testing our student-athletes and staff upon their return,” Barbour told reporters. “As a university and an athletic department, we’ve decided that we’ll report those results every two weeks.”
The eight positive tests all came in the third round of announced results on July 29.
Neither the sports nor the identities of the individuals to test positive were announced.
The new results were released Wednesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the Big Ten announced the cancellation of 2020 fall sports with the hope of moving the season to the spring for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Centre County reported four new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to the state Department of Health, which brings the county’s total to 377 since the first case was reported on March 20.
The next group of test results will be released Aug. 26, if Penn State continues to follow the schedule it announced July 1.
