Penn State football gains commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Drew Shelton for 2022

Penn State continued its hot start in the class of 2022 on Friday afternoon when it picked up a commitment from Drew Shelton.

Shelton — a four-star recruit, No. 13 offensive tackle and No. 130 player in the class of 2022 — became the fifth player to join the class. He announced his decision on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The 6-foot-5, 255-pound tackle joins three-star quarterback Beau Pribula, four-star wide receiver Kaden Saunders, four-star tight end Jerry Cross and four-star tight end Holden Staes in a class that is ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 3 nationally, according to 247Sports.

A Downingtown native, Shelton chose to play close to home over 20 other scholarship offers listed on his 247Sports profile, including offers from Big Ten programs such as Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Maryland. Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein is listed as his primary recruiter on his profile, while cornerbacks coach Terry Smith is listed as his secondary recruiter.

Shelton’s pledge helps continue to solidify the Nittany Lions’ offensive line for the future, with class of 2021 four-star offensive tackle Landon Tengwall having committed in March.

Though it is early in the 2022 recruiting cycle, the addition of Shelton bolsters what is so far one of the best recruiting classes in the country.
