Penn State football was not ranked in the first College Football Playoff ranking of the 2021 season.

The Nittany Lions failed to make it into the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season on Tuesday after being ranked No. 22 in the latest AP top 25 poll on Sunday.

The lack of a ranking comes after Penn State’s 33-24 loss to the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus on Saturday, with the Nittany Lions on a three-game losing streak.

The Buckeyes are part of the six Big Ten teams ranked in the initial rankings, along with Michigan State at No. 3, Michigan at No. 7, Minnesota at No. 20, Wisconsin at No. 21 and Iowa at No. 22.

Penn State has played four teams that are ranked in the poll, the aforementioned Buckeyes, Hawkeyes and Badgers, along with No. 13 Auburn.

The Nittany Lions still have to play two more teams that are ranked — Michigan and Michigan State.
