Penn State football’s top special teamer declares for 2022 NFL Draft

Penn State football will have to replace its most valuable kicking specialist in 2022. Redshirt senior Jordan Stout declared for the 2022 NFL Draft Tuesday afternoon. He made the announcement via his personal Twitter account.

“I really can’t find the right words to express how incredible my time in State College has been and how honored I am to have played at such as incredible place,” Stout’s statement read. “From an early age I always dreamed of playing sports on the big stage. Little did I know I would be playing on one of the biggest stages in all of sports.”

Stout served as the team’s kickoff specialist and punter for the entirety of the season and kicked field goals before being replaced by Jake Pinegar late in the year. Stout excelled on kickoffs and punts, including winning the Big Ten punter of the year award. He averaged 46 yards per punt this season, good for 19th in the country.

The Nittany Lions have now had five players forego their remaining eligibility and declare for this year’s draft.

Stout joins linebackers Brandon Smith and Ellis Brooks, wide receiver Jahan Dotson and left tackle Rasheed Walker as players with eligibility remaining that declared for this year’s draft from Penn State.

The program will have to replace 10 starters next season, including Stout, and will have even more turnover on special teams as a whole.

Monday the program’s special teams coordinator — Joe Lorig — was hired by Oregon and by Tuesday Penn State had named Stacy Collins as his replacement to lead the special teams in 2022.
