Penn State football is set to lose a key piece of its staff. Dwight Galt III, the assistant AD for performance enhancement who serves as the program’s strength and conditioning coach, will retire, according to an announcement by the program.

The Penn State website has an opening for a position titled “assistant director performance enhancement.”

Galt has been in charge of James Franklin’s strength and conditioning programs since Franklin first became a head coach at Vanderbilt in 2011. He’s helped many players go on to the NFL from Penn State after testing well and developing as athletes, including Saquon Barkley, Mike Gesicki and Chris Godwin.

Prior to his time with Franklin, Galt ran Maryland’s strength and conditioning program from 1993-2011, where he also overlapped with Franklin from 2000-2004 and 2008-2010.
