Penn State football adds four-star quarterback commit from Florida

Penn State football added a quarterback to its 2023 recruiting class Friday evening. Four-star quarterback Marcus Stokes announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions and head coach James Franklin via his personal Twitter account.

Stokes chose the program over 12 other scholarship offers, including those from Indiana, Memphis and Virginia Tech. He’s a Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida native and plays for Nease High School, where he racked up numbers as a passer and a runner. Stokes completed 196 of his 333 passing attempts as a junior for 2,672 yards and 22 touchdowns, while adding 496 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

He led his team to a 9-4 record and two playoff wins as a junior with his performance.

Stokes is the ninth commitment for the Nittany Lions in the class and the seventh offensive player. His class is poised to protect him well, with four offensive linemen already committed, including five-star Alex Birchmeier and four-star J’ven Williams, both according to the 247Sports Composite player rankings.

The Florida QB is ranked as the No. 165 player in the country and No. 10 player at his position according to the 247Sports player rankings.

His addition moves the class from No. 5 to No. 4 in the country, bypassing Georgia in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. The group remains No. 1 in the Big Ten in the 2023 class.
