Transfer portal tracker: 2022 Penn State football players searching for new schools
College football rosters are now constantly in flux thanks to the addition of the free one-time transfer rule. The NCAA transfer portal has become the destination for coaches in need of a roster addition and the place to be for players in search of a new home.
Most programs are impacted by the portal every year and Penn State is no different. The Nittany Lions have multiple players who have left the program and are looking to transfer and will likely have more as the season progresses.
Below are the players from Penn State who have entered the portal since the beginning of fall camp prior to the 2022 season. Check back as we continue to update this list.
RB Caziah Holmes
Signed: 2020 4-star (Cocoa, Fla.)
Status: Transferred to Florida State
Notes: Holmes spent two seasons at Penn State but was ultimately unable to earn a starting role at running back. He played as a backup in both 2020 and 2021, accumulating 51 carries for 227 yards and two touchdowns in his first year and five carries for 27 yards in his second. Holmes was set to once again play a backup role in a crowded running back room prior to entering the transfer portal during fall camp.
The 2020 4-star running back enrolled at Florida State on Aug. 29, per 247Sports’ Chris Hummer. Holmes has four years of eligibility.
.
DE Ken Talley
Signed: 2022 4-star (Philadelphia, Pa.)
Status: In transfer portal
Notes: Talley was a leader in the 2022 recruiting class for Penn State, helping build the group that finished sixth in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. He could have played either linebacker or defensive end for the Nittany Lions and would likely have redshirted for the 2022 season prior to entering the transfer portal in the preseason.
